Let’s Get Fat and Happy!

Hurry, hurry, hurry to the Oak Cliff Mardi Gras celebration and Dash for the Beads run this weekend, Saturday and Sunday March 1st and 2nd. Bring Grandma, Grampa Joe, mom, dad, son, daughter, dog, cat, bird, cousin, nephew, niece, friend or foes alike and join in the activities. Festivities begin Saturday morning with The Dash for the Beads 5k run, followed by the annual “Masquerade Ball” at 7pm in the Kessler Theater, and wrapping up Sunday with the Mardi Gras Parade down Davis Street to Bishop Arts.

Wikipedia, the hub for all accurate information, says that “Mardi Gras and/or Fat Tuesday in English refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Epiphany or Kings day and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. The day is sometimes referred to as Shrove Tuesday, from the word shrive, meaning “confess.” Related popular practices are associated with celebrations before the fasting and religious obligations associated with the penitential season of Lent.”

Hewitt & Habgood are proud to be a sponsor of this year’s celebration and hope to see your decorative attire with bright and shiny faces to kick off Go Oak Cliff’s 2014 festival season. Let’s get Fat and happy ya’ll!
